original designs

gdesign specializes in original design art glass paired with hand-hammered metal designs and semi-precious stones. The art glass is unique and something you won't find anywhere else. Many of the designs start out as an accident! You never know what might happen if you experiment around! Below are some of the designs that gdesign has created along with the stories behind their creation.

Volcano beads were designed to have lots of turmoil happening at the core. Just like a volcano. These were created for the Volcano! necklace in the Jewelry by ZONA 'Unexpected Color' collection for Spring 2010.

Zebra beads are big, bold, black and white, and fun. These were created for the Jewelry by ZONA 'Unexpected Color' collection for Spring 2010. They are powerful and whimsical all at the same time.

gdesign's first art glass bauble was a Sticky IcingTM bead. It is a wonderful long bead filled with intricate designs. The first one was made by accident in the glass studio when trying to coat a bead in a transparent layer. It turned out that initial rings of glass laid down gave an Op Art effect and looked like sticky icing drizzled all over the bead. Kinda cool!

The HurricaneTM bauble is the latest addition to the gdesign art glass baubles.  Designed for the 2009 Christmas Ornament, it contains swirls and swirls of glass with the tiniest of dots in the center. The swirls look like the arms of a hurricane as it appears on the weather map with the tiny dot as the 'eye' of the hurricane.

Shine-OnTM beads were created for the 2009 Fall/Holiday collection to give some shine and lustre to the gemstones. Created by wrapping silver leaf around hot glass and then burnishing it, these beads give off a truly wonderful soft silver glow.

FishScaleTM beads were created for the 2009 Spring/Summer Collection to serve as the focal point for the Silver Lining necklace. They are a beautiful, structural bead with precise placement of the glass. The clear deep purple over opaque glass gives a bit of an illusion of depth. A recent edition were the acorn beads using the fishscale technique for the caps.

The GraaaaavityTM baubles were discovered by accident. While melting in some glass layers, the glass started dripping off the mandrel. It kept slipping and slipping like thick honey off a spoon. By the time it was caught, it had created a wonderful effect with beautiful stripes and layers.

A recent addition to the unique gdesign art glass family is the GalaxyTM bauble. It is made by wrapping clear or transparent glass on top of mica powder and layering other designs in a spiral shape. It's named galaxy since it looks like all the pictures you see of the Milky Way and other spiral galaxies.

A popular feature of gdesign jewelry is the is the Question MarkTM clasp. Easy to fasten and unfasten, it's beauty and functionality make it a frequently-requested item. Adding glass or stone in the center makes the clasp truly a part of the entire piece of jewelry.

DoodlzTM links are a variation on the Question Mark ClaspTM. They are a result of transferring the concentric circle doodles that seem to constantly appear on my notes! to designs in silver. DoodlzTM links appear as clasps like the fish clasp on the left as well as links in necklaces like the wave on the Tahitian Lagoon.
