The 'g' behind gdesign is me, Gail Zona. My personal website is www.gailzona.com. I started making jewlery because I wanted my necklaces and earrings to go together. I began with the usual beads from the arts and crafts stores but quickly found I wanted something different. and really unusual. So a flyer from the Musuem of Fine Art in Boston got me into glass. Getting comfortable working with flame took me into metals and here I am! A jewelry artist specializing in glass with metal.

I have been making and selling my handiwork since I was 10, so starting gdesign wasn't that big of a stretch for me. I started with making mice finger puppets from toilet paper tubes and felt! Got the idea from an article in Family Circle magazine. Sold them at a women's consignment shop called The Henhouse and they just took off! Who knew that would lead to the jewelry artist many years later.

I learned glass making at Diablo Glass School. Great place to learn. They have lots of classes and everyone is very nice. Sean does a fabulous job. I learned metal working at MetalWerx. They have great classes in metalworking for all levels. Highly recommend them. |

I am an active member of the Newburyport Art Association. They have a gallery in Newburyport right downtown on Water St with lots of rotating shows for local artists. Worth a trip. I am in shows from time to time there. |

I feel strongly that we should give back, so after my 4th friend was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, I decided to start a line of Breast Cancer Jewels and donate 50% of the proceeds to help eradicate this terrible disease. I have always been a supporter of the arts and one of the best delights of living in Newburyport is the Firehouse Center for the Arts. Fabulous performances of all kinds for all ages. I donate to them regularly. |
